Gastritis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach.There are hypo- and hyperacid gastritis (that is, with high or low acidity).
It is known that the stomach produces hydrochloric acid, the content of which determines the type of gastritis.Diet plays a major role in the treatment of gastritis.
Basic diet rules
The main goal of the anti-gastritis diet is to maintain a diet that ensures normal digestion.
Gastritis treatment table (per day) should include:
- 90-100 gr.proteins (60% animal),
- 90-100 gr.fat (75% animal)
- 400-420 gr.carbohydrates.
Total energy value should be 2800-3000 kcal.
Dietary rules for gastritis
Force mode
First of all, you need to stick to a meal schedule (at the same time).Secondly, eating with gastritis should be fractional, 4-5 times a day, but at the same time you should avoid snacks (they stimulate the "excess" secretion of gastric juice and reduce its production during breakfast/lunch/dinner, which disrupts the processes of food processing and assimilation).
Reading, watching TV, and "eat on the run" while eating should be completely avoided.
Knowing the size
With gastritis, the saying "there should be some hunger after eating" is more relevant than ever.
Firstly, the feeling of satiety appears only 10-15 minutes after eating, and secondly, the fullness of the stomach does not perform its functions well, especially with gastritis.
Chewing food
Chewing food for a long time (at least 25-30 seconds per piece) promotes thorough mechanical processing of food, which relieves stomach pain.In addition, in this case, hunger is satisfied faster (this prevents overeating).
Avoid complex foods
The menu for gastritis should consist of simple but varied dishes.The abundance of ingredients in dishes makes it difficult for the stomach to digest.
Rest after eating
Take a 15-20 minute break after each meal (not necessarily sleep).You can read a book or listen to music.
Foods prohibited for gastritis
By increasing acidity

Diet for gastritis with increased hydrochloric acid should be aimed at reducing the production of gastric juice.Therefore, the principles of the treatment table consist of 3 points:
- mechanical- do not eat coarse fiber foods (bran bread, turnips, radishes, "old" meat);
- chemical- prohibition of foods that increase the production of gastric juice (alcohol, coffee, white cabbage, citrus fruits, sour fruits and berries, strong broths);
- heat- do not eat too cold or, on the contrary, hot food (optimal temperature is 50 degrees).
Prohibited foods for hyperacid gastritis:
- fresh, especially warm bread, pastries made of butter;
- cereals: pearl barley, beans, millet, barley, corn (coarse fiber);
- rich meat and fish broths, okroshka, borscht, mushroom soups (contains many extractive substances that stimulate the production of gastric juice);
- various fatty and fibrous varieties of meat: duck, chicken, pork, smoked meat (they are difficult to digest in the stomach and increase the formation of hydrochloric acid);
- fatty and salty fish (provoke the formation of gastric juice);
- sour milk products (all types of sharp cheese limited to sour cream);
- vegetables: rutabaga, radish, radish, kombucha, spinach, canned vegetables (rough fiber), as well as onion and garlic, especially raw (stimulates gastric glands in the mucous membrane);
- sweets: sour fruits and berries, unripe fruits, chocolate, dried fruits (coarse fiber, increased acidity);
- spices: mustard, pepper, horseradish (stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid);
- carbonated drinks, kvass, coffee (stimulates the release of hydrochloric acid, increases the formation of gas, causes heartburn);
- fried and boiled eggs, animal fats (except butter).
Gastritis with low acidity
The goal of the diet for gastritis with low acidity is to stimulate the production of gastric juice (in moderation).Food should be taken after the release of hydrochloric acid begins, that is, in the first phase (advertisements or programs about food, beautiful pictures of food, "tasty" conversations can cause the release of gastric juice).
Prohibited foods for hypoacid gastritis:
- fresh bread, rich pastries ("heavy for the stomach" food, which makes chemical and mechanical processing difficult);
- limit pearl barley, beans, millet;
- fatty meat, meat with fascia (film), canned food, smoked meat (insufficient mechanical processing of food, excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid);
- oily and salty fish;
- rough fibrous vegetables and fruits (white cabbage, turnip, radish, cucumber, bell pepper), mushrooms;
- fruits with grain or thick skin (raspberries, strawberries, red currants, gooseberries, figs);
- sharp and salty cheeses, milk - neutralize hydrochloric acid;
- pork, beef, mutton fat and lard (difficult to digest foods that cannot be digested due to low production of hydrochloric acid);
- spices and spices (irritating the gastric mucosa), as well as chocolate, grape juice, alcohol;
Authorized Products
By increasing acidity

Allowed and recommended foods and meals for gastritis with increased acid production neutralize the high content of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and facilitate digestion in the stomach (pure dishes, liquid porridge, boiled meat, fish and poultry).
Allowed products for hyperacid gastritis:
- "yesterday's" or dried bread, crackers, dry cookies (biscuits);
- vegetable puree (carrots, potatoes, beets, cauliflower), peeled tomatoes;
- fruits that do not contain rough fibers (bananas, cooked apples, ripe pears, sweet fruits, as well as fruit drinks, compotes, jelly, preparation of jelly from them);
- sweet foods: milk cream, marshmallows, marshmallows, honey (drinking honey water 1.5-2 hours before meals reduces acidity in the stomach, has a healing and immunostimulating effect);
- oil (natural and oil), vegetable oils (contains vitamin E, which neutralizes hydrochloric acid);
- lean varieties of meat and poultry (veal, beef without tendons and fascia, "white" chicken);
- milk, cream, low-fat cottage cheese (antacid - anti-heartburn effect, covers the mucous membranes of the stomach, neutralizes gastric juice);
- river fish (contains a large number of unsaturated fats, which normalizes the functioning of the digestive tract) in the form of cutlets or steamed, boiled;
- seafood;
- Parsley and dill, vanilla and cinnamon in small quantities to stimulate appetite;
- soft-boiled egg or steamed omelette (preferably white);
- cabbage, potato, carrot juice (or a mixture) - anticidal effect, high content of vitamin U - anti-ulcer factor;
- decoction of rose hips (high in vitamin C, which has a healing effect and stimulates the appetite), weak tea or coffee with milk, cocoa, still mineral water (removal of toxins).
With low acidity
Foods recommended for gastritis with low acidity should stimulate the production of hydrochloric acid.Eating should coincide with the beginning of the release of gastric juice.
Allowed foods for hypoacid gastritis:
- dried bread, crackers, baked goods;
- porridge with water or condensed milk, well-cooked, liquid, as well as steamed meatballs and cutlets, pudding, souffle;
- beef, skinless chicken;
- low-fat meat and fish broth, cereals, pasta, if well tolerated, borscht, cabbage soup, finely chopped vegetables and beet soup can be added;
- potatoes, zucchini, pumpkin, white (finely chopped) cabbage, cauliflower (boiled, steamed or mashed, pudding);
- potato, cabbage, carrot juice immediately before meals (stimulates the release of hydrochloric acid);
- before meals honey water (stimulates the formation of acid), watermelon, peeled grapes, baked apples, compote and mousse from very ripe and sweet fruits;
- tea with lemon, weak coffee, condensed milk and cocoa, rosehip decoction;
- vegetable oils, butter;
- sour milk products, finely ground and soft cheese;
- soft-boiled eggs or egg-white omelets.
The need to follow a diet
No drug can completely cure acute gastritis or bring about permanent remission in case of chronic gastritis.
All advertised drugs are available to everyone, sold without a prescription in pharmacies.But they only eliminate (temporary) unpleasant symptoms (redness, pain, sore throat).
A diet against gastritis not only makes the life of the patient easier, but also makes a person disciplined.
The treatment table for gastritis is a complete and healthy diet, normalization of lifestyle, rejection of bad habits and low-quality food.In addition, the anti-gastritis diet helps to normalize weight (those who lose weight gain weight, and those who are overweight lose weight), because timely and nutritious food normalizes not only the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, but also all metabolic processes, thus strengthening the immune system.
Consequences of not following a diet

If you refuse to follow a diet for any type of gastritis, the patient may face the following problems:
- vitamin deficiency;
- diseases of the liver, pancreas, duodenum, large and small intestines (due to malfunction of the stomach);
- significant weight loss (fear of food);
- peptic ulcer disease and its consequences: perforation of the wound, penetration of the wound - sprouting into the organ, bleeding;
- formation of atrophic gastritis and its transformation into gastric cancer.
